South Carolina's
capital city has achieved a balance between quiet small-town charm and big-city
opportunities. Though it is home to 500,000 people, the city retains its well-known
"Southern hospitality". Columbia is home to people from over 125 countries, so
stores carry products from many foreign lands. The mountains and the beach are each only
two hours away. Winters are fairly mild, making Columbia a pleasant place to both live and
